Unless I’m mistaken, Second Semester at Bob Jones University runs from January to Commencement in May. For those of you who were Political Science majors, that would include the month of April – April 2010, in this case.

I have attended BJU for 3 years… and I am currently taking a break from school (financial reasons)…¹
My question is, in which statement is Chris Peterman lying? Was he lying when he posted on Huffington Post for Women “Lemondrop”? Or is he lying now?
“…my friend, Beth Murschell, called me and begged me not to go back to school. Even though my personal views had already radically shifted I still supported BJU and I told Beth that I wasn’t going to transfer anywhere else. She told me that there was so much that I didn’t know.”
Chris says his friend Beth called him and this “call” took place prior to the 2010 Second Semester at BJU. That would make it December 2009 or January 2010 (at the latest).
Is this “First Contact” between The Disaffected (Beth Murschell) and Peterman? To me it sounds as though Peterman read the May 2011 Murschell/Peterman exchange I posted in Evolution of a Rebel – and, having read it, modified the recounting of his story.

Keep in mind that Peterman says at the time of the Beth Murschell phone call (2009-10) his views “had already radically shifted” – so, this would mean Beth, being a telephone call kind of friend would already have known about Peterman’s “radical” shift in views.
Yet Chris Peterman spends most of this May 2011 exchange explaining his views to Beth Murschell.
Beth obviously had Chris Petermans’ phone number (“…Beth Murschell, called me and begged me…”) – why would she not already know this very basic friend information if they had already discussed it?

So, take into account the “friends” Christopher surrounded himself with – bad advice all around. Makes us here at THGC wonder just what role Beth Murschell played in all of this?

“I refused. I packed my bags, loaded the car, and headed up to BJU, but I continued to remember Beth’s warnings in the back of my head.” (This would have been January 2010, according to Peterman latest story.)
And now – the origins of the DoRight BJU Facebook page…
“I left his [Dean of Men’s] office and immediately created a Facebook page called Do Right BJU…”
Then this meeting would have had to occur before the DoRight BJU page was created – since the meeting prompted the page’s creation. The DoRight page was founded in October 2011. If an exact date of this meeting between the Dean of Men and Chris Peterman can be established (would have been October 2011), then there would be circumstantial proof that Peterman actually founded the page – all by himself – with no help from The Disaffected who were trying to proselytize students for their own nefarious goals, i.e., the total closure of BJU.

Notice the plurals – “founding members” – “other admins” – a legitimate question would be: Who are these other people if Chris was alone in the founding of this anti-BJU page? And if these other “founding members” and “admins” are students, why aren’t they being expelled?

These quotes are in order of appearance – in other words, this is the sequence of events according to Chris Peterman. Pastor Chuck Phelps tendered his resignation from the BJU Cooperating Board of Trustees on December 2, 2011 – a full ten days before the 12-12 protest. Peterman used the same sequence of events in his interview on WSPA-TV – giving the impression that the protest occurred then the resignation. Not true.
“…many people changed their profile photos to red, creating a virtual sea of red on Facebook…”
And the protest itself was only a “sea of red” on-line (the changing of profile pics) – and predominately by The Disaffected – gleefully participating in what they considered the first step in shutting down an evil, abusive institution.

Really? Then why, Chris, did you continue with your anti-BJU rhetoric? Criticizing not only the policies and trivial minutia governing the behavior and conduct of current students, but also the administrators, president and chancellor?
Monday, April 23, 2012 was my 30th “Ship-A-Versary” – 30years since being expelled from BJU. I was expelled for “attitude”, breaking a few minor rules – not for demerits (sound familiar?) – and I’ve written about it extensively.
Sunday evening, April 22, 2012, I watched my first “Chris & Christy* Show” video – and I was shocked that this kid was still a student at BJU. Oh, sure, I had mouthed off a few times, but nothing on the scale of the World Wide Web.
So, as I am wont to do, I wrote about it – sarcastically – claiming that “BJU had changed” and that students could basically get away with anything anymore…

We here at The Hidalgo Grain Company are not claiming credit for getting Chris Peterman shipped, but it does seem like an odd coincidence.

Rulings that determined you broke the rules.

You, Chris Peterman, published via DoRight BJU unsubstantiated and undocumented claims of abuse (sexual and otherwise) occurring at Bob Jones University – accusing major players in the BJU administration of covering up crimes – allowing posters on your DoRight page to refer to the administrators in demeaning, disgusting and derogatory ways.
And your reason(s) for expulsion are in a constant state of flux. First it was the lyrics to a contemporary Christian song — no, wait — another CCM song — no, I was watching Glee at Starbucks — no, it was for creating the DoRight page — oh — AND opposing Chuck Phelps — what next, Chris? What next?
“I didn’t back down when threatened.”
Insubordination = 50 D’s. And the only threats I remember were the creamed eggs and BBQ hotdogs.
“I didn’t give in when I felt stalked.”
Your feelings bothered no one – it was your actions that got you into trouble.
And you were “stalked”, Chris – but it was The Disaffected that “stalked” you. They needed a surrogate to administer what they would hope to be a lethal dose of contaminate into the BJU circulatory system. And you, Chris Peterman, were that surrogate – that dupe.

It would be helpful for folks to know that that in the past both Chris Peterman and Beth Murschell attended Community Baptist Church, Bradenton, Florida.
If this adds any light to the situation, Beth Murschell’s dad is the former pastor of the church Chris Peterman is from in Bradenton, Florida. She has probably known him since he was a child.
Okay – I guess she really was “First Contact”.
Seems Beth would fall into the category of, “With friends like these…”
You did some nice reporting here … pointing out inaccuracies in his account.
I think the kid was used by BJU haters and outsiders.
I don’t think he was shipped for “Do the Right thing” but instead because he broke beaucoup rules.
Most are accepting this story at face value – so much of it has changed, is changing and just isn’t true.
I don’t see anyone else checking the facts.
It is interesting that the disaffected are using the term “BJU’s scapegoat” to describe Christopher Peterman. It is obvious from the time line that his was much more of the sacrificial lamb to the disaffected. My experience has been that as long as you agree with the disaffected everything is OK. The moment you ask them to at least play fair you are out.
It is obvious that he was groomed by Beth Murschell. Beth’s blog states that Christopher lived in her dad’s home for a short period of time. The influence that these people have had on this guy have been overpowering.
Christopher and the disaffected’s story morphs here according to the intended audience. If the audience is LGBT, or the general left he was shipped for Glee. If the audience is marginal BJU it is the lyrics to a song. If he wants general sympathy it is for standing up for abused women.
His Monday night post referenced in the CEO’s screenshot, indicates even with the demerit count at 120 he still thought he was about to graduate, and then then have the freedom to elaborate on the expletive that he thought the CEO had earned. In the timeline of the demerit tally this was post-Glee, but pre-CCM. This kind of blows a hole in the I was shipped for watching Glee story he never seems to correct in all the LGBT and crusading left internet rags.
There is a fair amount of general dishonesty in the versions this story.
As to the timing of his jab at the CEO, and his wife on the eve of Christopher’s induction into the Fly Delta Home society, it is so uncanny that I am really afraid that this blog is a front for the Dean of Men’s office at BJU. If this is true, it wasn’t me that put the laundry soap in the fountain on front campus.
Just to be clear — the “Open Letter to Dr. Bob III” was written late Sunday night (Apr 22) and posted early Monday morning (Apr 23) to coincide with my 30th “Ship-A-Versary” (1982-2012).
Peterman’s “expletive” response on Facebook was made Monday evening (Apr 23) — I pulled it from Facebook via screen-shot 11 hours later (Apr 24).

Interesting to see the following which Peterman is getting and now all of the news stories. I’ve been really enjoying your posts about his change. Which brings me to my comment. In one of Peterman’s many CNN iReport’s when posed with the question, “If given the opportunity, would you attend BJU again and finish off your education?” Chris responded with, “No, I would not,” and a shake of his head. However, in his latest public appearance in the FoxNews video, he adamantly states at the end of the video, “If Bob Jones would let me come back and finish my exams, I would gladly come back.”

I’ve talked to several BJU grads who have said that if Christopher Peterman is given/granted/awarded a degree from BJU – meaning the U caves and gives in – they will send their diplomas back.
We may even protest — who knows…

I wonder if Peterman could sue those who exerted such undue influence on him? He’s suffered terribly (financially) because of their influence on him.
Bet they’ll soon stop taking his calls. Then he’ll start exposing everything that went on behind the scenes.
Chris, if you are reading this, don’t listen to the Disaffected when they start telling you to destroy the paper trail that leads back to them. They have THEIR best interest at heart, not yours.
Just hope there aren’t any pictures of you on the internet taking free vacations and picking up game system “gifts” before the stuff hit the fan….
Mr. Peterman can bet his sweet bippy that the Disaffected have screencaps and have archived every word he has said, anywhere on the Internet in all of this. If he should consider an about face to expose the truth, they will have plenty of ammo in his own words to keep his mouth shut about them–lots of photos too . . . and Peterman just keeps on handing them even more. The more he says the more he incriminates himself.
I so enjoy reading your posts! Thank you for your documentation and timelines regarding this subject. I, too, have thought many times that the stories keep morphing to fit the reader/sympathizer.
