Occupy The Hidalgo Grain Company

Yes – we here at The Hidalgo Grain Company realize there have been some delays between blogs –

But – let me, the CEO, explain why.

First of all, most of you are aware of the conflict between The Hidalgo Grain Company (THGC) and the Sharper Iron/”All Pro-BJU Crowd” – the source of the conflict is a result of our honest and authentic portrayal of some of the history of Bob Jones University, Independent Fundamentalism and highlighting the hypocrisy and lies demonstrated by the actions of individual members of “The IFB Network” and its organizations (i.e., the covering of abuse and the protection of the abusers).

At The Hidalgo Grain Company, we try to keep a level head – keep the emotions in check – and attempt to be fair. When a lie is a lie, we call it such. If something is not commanded in Scripture, we say so. If the history of an institution or its founder is not as pristine as we’ve been told, then we expose it.

Let the chips fall where they may.

Well, lately, chips have been falling.

Inspired by the “Occupy Wall Street” (OWS)¹ demonstrations (we assume), two weeks ago, protests erupted on North Railroad Street in front of The Hidalgo Grain Company offices. At first, some of our staff panicked (not mentioning any names, Eric) but eventually all of us settled in and tried to work as though it was a normal day in Hidalgo.

It didn’t take long to identify the protesters – they were clean cut, collared shirts, ties – the few women that were there were subservient and sporting culottes –

– obviously the All Pro-BJU Crowd had found us.

But, fortunately, their occupation of The Hidalgo Grain Company grounds did not last long.

Late that same afternoon, three incidents occurred that caused the assembled All Pro-BJU Crowd to become disorganized and to begin fighting amongst themselves:

1) A wife of one of the protesters showed up in pants and,

2) Some of the protesters were chanting slogans in a rhythmic fashion that resembled jazz or rock music, therefore, under BJU policy, the chants did not “check.”

3) And, finally, due to a previously declared “Media Fast”, none of the All Pro-BJU Crowd could contact like-minded protesters via the various social networks, thus limiting their numbers.

By 5 PM that evening, as the staff and I left, the All Pro-BJU Crowd were gone –

With just a few “Are You Saved?” tracts left behind.

Then the real trouble started.

A week later – a different crowd showed up –

Occupy The Hidalgo Grain Company

The “Bob-whackers” – also known as, “The Disaffected.”

Unencumbered by self-imposed (and silly) “Media Fasts”, The Disaffected organized on Facebook, Twitter & Jib-Jab and showed up better prepared and in greater numbers –

And they occupied The Hidalgo Grain Company for over a week…

Leaving behind, not religious tracts –

But other – stuff

¹Priceless quotes from Truth Seeking Graduates of Bob Jones Facebook page:

They are not protesting “capitalism.” They are protesting Wall Street’s corruption.

That is what Jesus was mad about. And yeah, there were stinky, ugly poor people around.

Wall Street [does not equal] Capitalism. We all need to get that. Wall Street is the exact opposite of capitalism.

…thankfully, this former BJU professor did not teach religion or economics…

Achtung! Das ist verboten!

²Lost your job?  Your house?  Can’t find work?  Under-employed?  Who’s to blame for all of the “stuff” thrown at us in the last 4 years?  Those who voted for it…

    Good night that was funny!

  2. James says:

    cute!

  3. Eric, The Hidalgo Grain Comapny I. T. guy, was forced to wash the Crown Vic featured in the photo above.

    Why Eric? Because he panicked.

While washing the “browned” car, Eric said a lot of words — but “cute” wasn’t one of them…

  4. Back-Stabbed says:

    This was funny!

  5. Dan Keller says:

Golly, gee, look what I found:

the CEO of The Hidalgo Grain Company says:
    DECEMBER 10, 2010 AT 1:12 PM
“Until recently I was VERY uncomfortable with calling what is commonly referred to as “Biblical Fundamentalism” a cult.

    Like I said – until recently…

My experience at Bob Jones University motivated me to write – so – I created a blog on WordPress and wrote.

For me it was therapy – for my Biblical Fundamentalist family, it was heresy.
My entire family (when I say “entire”, I mean ENTIRE) – my parents, siblings, etc. have cut me off. My parents live in an isolated area and choose not to have the internet, but they drove 10 miles to a library with net access in a near-by town just to read my heretical blog my sisters & cousins told them about.

The same day I received a phone call – they wanted to know if I had ever been “saved” –

That, my friends, is cult behavior.”

*NOTE: Dr. Camille Lewis, embarrassed by some of her past views (i.e., advising all Christians to vote for Barack Obama) & associated blog, has, on occasion, blocked this link. But – the I. T. Dept. here at The Hidalgo Grain Company has a permanent solution so that all may enjoy the profundity that is Dr. Camille Lewis, former long-term employee and cheerleader for Bob Jones University.

  6. Golly gee-whiz, Dan, took you long enough…

That comment has been out there for nearly a year…

Yep – that’s what happened to me. Even today, as I write this, nothing has changed.

Is the behavior “cult-ish” or “cult-like”? If you use a broad definition of the word – yes. Was then – still is now.

That’s what happens when any person embraces pure religion – reason and logic suffer – so does love – and that person becomes nothing but a noise-maker.

And the Bob-whacker Facebook sites are full of them –

I know I went over this at once before — here

Weren’t you paying attention? I’ll bet you were one of those people that highlighted the bold terms in their History of Civ book, weren’t you?

  7. Ken Smith says:

I’m sort glad ol Dan dug that up. I followed your link and found out you have a wife.

I can’t tell you how relieved I am. I was worried you might be, uh, um, uh, gay.

  8. “I was worried you might be, uh, um, uh, gay.”

Why? Because I’m thin, neat and can write well?

Do I have to sound like Larry the Cable Guy before I’m considered straight?

  9. Ken Smith says:

Well lets be honest, you are rather erudite for a straight guy.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that….

  10. The Bard says:

Hilarious, and it reminds me of several key truths. For one thing, we should all be thankful that the IFB can’t get along with each other. Their fractiousness cripples their own movement, which leaves the rest of us better off. For another, “The Disaffected” are far nastier and more vicious towards their opponents than the IFBs.

  11. Very true.

The moment I had one – one – disagreement with them (“The Disaffected”), I was deemed a “BJU Lover”, I had gotten “saved”, etc., etc…..

There were even posts on The Disaffected Facebook sites that had me sending my kids to BJU — !

Something I would never do — like my kids would go — I think I raised them better than that….
